Cloth Fitting

Your pool cloth should always be fitted by a qualified or experienced fitter. A poorly fitted pool cloth will slow down ball speed, create abnormalities in the playing area and cause uneven, premature wearing. This defeats the whole purpose of creating the optimum playing surface to give your customers more pool playing pleasure.

Important Areas To Look For:

Tightness
A well fitted pool cloth will always feel tight on the slate. Check for tightness by pinching cloth together, especially around sides of the playing area. If cloth puckers up when pinched, it is too slack and needs re-stretching or fitting correctly.

Tension
The cloth must have even tension over the slate to create a smooth and equal playing surface. Uneven tension will slow the ball down in certain parts of the pool table.

Re-Stretching
The weave in the pool cloth naturally slackens off after about six months. Cloth should then ideally be re-stretched by a fitter to lengthen its life and restore its playing characteristics. Hainsworth Smart is woven extremely tightly, which lessens the need for re-stretching.

Cushions
The cushion cloth should be fitted tightly but with even tension over the cushion rubber. Do not fit too tightly, or the nose of the cushion rubber will be pulled down. If it is fitted unevenly, puckering will occur underneath the cushion where the cloth meets the bed.
