Cloth Care

Cloth Maintenance - Brushing

IMPORTANT BRUSHING INFORMATION

  1. BRUSHING IS ESSENTIAL AND EASY!
Ideally, brush your table everyday for approx 3 minutes.
  2. Always brush from 'D' end to 'Spot' end, in short, sharp straight strokes, following the nap direction, lifting the brush upwards at the end of each stroke to lift the dust up from the cloth.
  3. Brush to remove chalk dust, dirt and finger marks and to re-align the 'nap' in the correct direction.
  4. Ideally use a hand held vac to collect the recently brushed debris. Otherwise, carefully run your brush across the bottom of the table under the cushion to brush the debris into the corner pockets
  • Do not brush too heavily or use a brush with very stiff bristles.

A quality pool experience can make a big difference to your earning potential.

"Just 3 minutes a day is all it takes to maintain your cloth, providing your customers with more pleasure and increasing your takings!"

DAILY BRUSHING ALIGNS THE NAP TO:-

  1. Improve Cloth Speed
  2. Maintain Cloth Performance
  3. Extend Cloth Life
  4. Improve Cloth Appearance
  5. Increase Playing Pleasure!

Please Note: If you do not brush regularly, the nap will start to bunch together (i.e. a pilling effect), ruining the pool cloth it permanently and causing the balls to dramatically slow down which seriously reduces your pool tables performance, not to mention its looks. A poor performing pool cloth will lessen your customers pleasure when visiting your bar / club - having a detrimental effect on your business.

Cloth Maintenance - Ironing

IMPORTANT IRONING INFORMATION

  1. Iron regularly (once a week for the average table) to gain maximum performance from your pool cloth.
  2. Brush the table in the direction of the nap thoroughly to lay all the fibres in the same direction and remove any dirt or dust.
  3. Iron in the direction of the nap at a slight angle, using a smooth, continuous movement from the 'D' end to the spot end. Any marks not removed during brushing will be 'set in' when ironed.
  4. To avoid creating 'tram lines' lap the proceeding ironing path over each previous ironing path.
  5. ENSURE YOUR IRON IS NOT TOO HOT, test it for heat on a sheet of newspaper. If it scorches the paper it is too hot.
  6. For best results, lift up the top of the table when you brush and iron.
  7. NEVER IRON THE CUSHIONS - as it damages the cushion rubbers. Brushing is sufficient.

IRONING TIPS

  1. Specialist dry irons can be expensive (household irons not recommended) so a weekly or fortnightly valeting service makes a good alternative - ask your operator for details .
  2. Ironing is highly recommended for perfect playing conditions and to make your cloth look its best - tournament tables should always be ironed. However, regular brushing is sufficient to keep your cloth playing well and in good condition.

Cloth Maintenance - Damp Blocking

  1. Blocking the table with a damp bar towel, wrapped around your brush is not common knowledge but adds a touch of perfection to your cloth maintenance routine .
  2. Blocking should always be done between brushing and ironing! ALWAYS IRON AFTER BLOCKING
  3. Wrap a clean, damp bar towel around the brush.
  4. Turn brush upside down and run the brush in straight lines from the 'D' end to the spot end, similar to brushing.
The damp cloth will pick up any surface dust and helps lay the fibres of the nap down in the correct position. This process helps remove cue stab marks and white fibrillation, which is exaggerated by chalk dust. This prepares the cloth for a perfect iron.
